Mobile Internet Connections

There are a number of options for connecting your Mac to the internet via your Sony Ericsson phone.

GPRS Modem Scripts

  • Download the scripts from Ross Barkmans excellent page here.
  • Then use the settings for your mobile network from here.

Bluetooth PAN (Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later)

  • Upgrade to Mac OS X 10.4.9 if not already done so.
  • Open the Bluetooth System Preferences pane on your Mac, and in the Devices tab, click Setup New Device.
  • Make sure all Services are selected and go through the whole setup.
  • Leave the fields for the internet connection settings blank.
  • At the end of the setup, the summary screen should show Use as personal area network at the bottom.
  • Turn Bluetooth on in your phone and go to Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth > Bluetooth Internet > Data accounts and select your working internet profile.
  • Then on the Mac, choose Join Network on [phone name] from the Bluetooth menu.

USB Internet

Connect the phone to the computer via USB in Phone Mode, and go to Settings > Connectivity > USB > USB Internet > USB data accounts - and choose your working internet profile. Then choose the Turn On option.

In the Macs Network preferences pane some new ports will be detected:

If you choose one of the 'Sony Ericsson' ports, these will need to be set-up with the GPRS as above. If you choose an 'Ethernet Adapter' port, the phone will be provided with an IP address for connection.
