Remove network operator branding from a Sony Ericsson phone

Network Operator branding is the customised startup/shutdown animations, screensavers, themes and icons that are undeletable from many Sony Ericsson phones when bought direct from the network. Different network operators have different levels of branding.

If you want a totally unbranded phone, as Sony Ericsson intended it to look, you can often get them from independent phone retailers.

To remove the branding you can use DaVinci, Total Multiserver or WotanServer on Mac or PC running Windows XP as there is no native Mac software available for doing this. Be warned that this process may invalidate your warranty and there is a small chance of damaging your phone if anything goes wrong.

Update your phones firmware using the Sony Ericsson Update Service

There is no update service for Mac OS X. If you have an Intel Mac running BootCamp, Parallels or Fusion with Windows XP you should be able to use any of the Windows solutions available.

The latest Sony Ericsson phones have an over-the-air (OTA) firmware upgrade function, which doesn't require the use of a computer. Access this in the Settings > General > Update service section on your phone.
