iSync Plugin SupportIf you have any problems with our iSync Plugins there's a few things you can try which will help. The tips listed below have solved 100% of all issues reported. Installation & Setup
Syncing issues after SetupConfirming System RequirementsYou must be running Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later with iSync 2.4 or later. These plugins will not run with any earlier versions of iSync. The iSync application must be located in the main Applications folder of your boot-up hard disk. You also need Apple supported Bluetooth hardware (see below) or a DCU-60 or DCU-65 USB cable for phones that support USB syncing. Bluetooth HardwareIf your Mac doesn't have built-in Bluetooth hardware, please use a D-Link DBT-120 USB dongle, as this is the only one supported by Apple. Syncing via the DCU-60 or DCU-65 USB cable is only supported for some models. Non-Apple supported Bluetooth hardware may not be compatible. Apple only supports the internal Bluetooth modules supplied as standard with their Macs, or the D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter. Some third-party USB Adapters are not fully compatible with the Mac (despite what they claim on the box). Pairing and File Transfers usually work ok, but syncing does not.
Other USB Adapters from other manufacturers may or may not work. If you have any definitive information on any not listed above, please let us know. Correct iSync Plugin installationThe Phone Plugin installer will automatically install the plugin to the correct place on your hard disk. Please check in [Your Hard Disk]/Library/PhonePlugins for a file or folder called Feisar-SEXXXX.phoneplugin (where XXXX is the model of your phone, for instance Feisar-SEK510.phoneplugin) Phone Model VariationsThe i, a & c variants of each phone are identical. The letter denotes the global region of sale: International, America or China. Each of our plugins works with all the regional variants of that phone. For example:-
iSync Plugin Colour OptionsThe various colour option installers provided for each iSync Plugin are functionally identical and just change the phone's icon that appears in the iSync window. iSync is not able to 'detect' the colour of your phone. Whichever plugin was installed last will be the icon that appears in iSync. If an installer for the colour of your phone is not available, let us know, but in the meantime, you can continue and install any colour option - it will not affect the ability to sync. Error: "iSync 2.4 or later is required"This message means that the version of iSync you have installed is not new enough. You need to be running iSync 2.4 or later which was released as part of the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Update. If you are certain you have iSync 2.4 or later installed please read the next "iSync not found" section. Error: "iSync not found"The iSync application must be named "iSync" and should not be moved from its default location in the main Applications folder of your boot-up hard-disk. If you have moved or renamed the iSync application, please revert it back to its default name and location. Error: "iSync can't open because of a problem with a plug-in"This message appears if iSync support for the phone you are installing already exists. You can only have one plugin for each phone installed at any one time. This can occur in the following situations: 1) You have previously installed another iSync Plugin for the same phone from another source which is causing a conflict with ours. To resolve this:
2) You have made modifications to iSync in an attempt to add support for your phone. To resolve this you can do one of the following:
3) Apple has since added native support for your phone. To resolve this:
iSync does not open automatically during the Phone SetupThere are two possible causes for this:
"This device is not supported by iSync" messagePlease check the following:
Tips for setting up a successful first syncFrom experience, we have found it is best to start with a completely empty phone. Attempting to merge existing data on the phone and the Mac isn't always successful. If you have existing contacts on the phone, transfer them to the Mac and import them into Address Book. Before your first sync, ensure your Address Book and iCal data is completely up-to-date, make a backup, then choose the Erase data on device then sync option from the For first sync: pop-up menu. For best results, don't try to sync the whole of your Address Book contacts to the phone. Create a group in Address Book with only the contacts you need on the phone in it. Then, in iSync, click the icon for your phone, and choose the group you made from the Contacts - Synchronize: pop-up menu. Syncing issues after setupPlease see our general iSync Tips page. Sending SMS, making and receiving calls with Apple Address BookThe iSync Phone Plugins are not intended to enable Address Book support for your phone. iSync and Address Book are two independent applications. If you are using Mac OS X 10.4.x you can enable Call and SMS functions in Address Book for your phone, by clicking here. Removing/uninstalling the Phone Plugins
iSync doesn't detect phone after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow LeopardIf, after installing Snow Leopard, you find that iSync can no longer detect your phone, or claims the phone is not supported despite the plugin being installed, please run the Apple Disk Utility application, click your boot-up hard disk partition, and then click the Repair Disk Permissions button. Wait while it repairs permissions, then restart the Mac and try setting up the phone again. For some users permissions are set incorrectly on the PhonePlugins folder after the installation of Snow Leopard, and this should fix this issue. If not, try the following:
Phone asks "Start Remote Control?" in Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow LeopardWhen running Snow Leopard, Sony Ericsson phones repeatedly ask "Start Remote Control?" when Bluetooth activity occurs between the Mac and phone. This issue did not affect previous versions of Mac OS X and appears to be a bug in the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Bluetooth system software. We have submitted this as a bug to Apple and are awaiting their response. Also, Apple have changed the Bluetooth pairing process in Snow Leopard so it is no longer possible to uncheck the "Use this phone as a remote control" in the Bluetooth Setup Assistant. When using iSync the phone may ask "Start Remote Control?". You can ignore this message whilst the phone is syncing, and then just answer "No" after syncing is complete. Please add your comments to this Apple Discussions thread and send feedback to Apple here, as the more people who notify Apple, the quicker this issue is likely to be fixed. New MobileMe CalendarRecently Apple has introduced the new MobileMe Calendar. As part of the upgrade process, MobileMe moves all of the calendars in iCal into the MobileMe "cloud". This means that older versions of iSync are unable to "see" the calendars, which in turn means that iSync cannot sync the calendars to the phone. Apple has released the Mac OS X 10.6.5 update which resolves this issue. So if you are using the new MobileMe Calendar, please update to continue syncing your phone. After updating you may still get an error about 'no writable calendar found'. iSync needs at least one local calendar to work, so just create one in iCal (even an empty one) to sync. Events synced from the phone to the Mac will be added to the local calendar. You can then move these events into the cloud-based calendars for syncing to other computers and iOS devices via MobileMe. |
